Emily Art Journaling with Carisa

Hi everyone! Carisa with you today and  I am SO excited to be sharing my first ever post as part of Jamie's Bloom Girl Design Team. I used the Emily stamp and Sweet Pea stencil to create a page in my art journal. I also filmed a video for you to share my process and how it all comes together. I hope you will take a few moments out of your day to watch and be inspired to experiment and let go...because that's exactly what I had to do for this page to come together!

This  page really started because of this quote. I picked up this book at a thrift store and I have been using it as my art journal. I love the quotes that are sprinkled throughout - some make me laugh (this book was published I believe in the early 1900's) and others really resonate with me like this one. I am so honored to be a part of Jamie's Bloom Girl DT but for some reason, I always freak out when I sit down to work on a project for a blog post - that's why this quote was PERFECT!! The biggest mistake I make in art is not even starting!

I really love the texture that the Sweet Pea stencil added along the bottom of my page. You can really see how pretty it looks here with some metallic texture medium.

Doesn't Emily look gorgeous on this page? It looks as though I planned this, right?! Nope! I actually had stamped right on my page but ended up stamping where there were a lot of ink splotches from me experimenting earlier. Oyi, I was like OH NO! So, I looked around and saw Emily half watercolored from an earlier attempt at a project that I had tossed in the trash because I wasn't happy. I took her out and thought, ok, I'll just fussy cut her out and adhere her over my earlier stamping. I finished coloring her and did just that…except now I know in order to attach something so thick and textured, I will definitely need some heavy gel medium in my art supplies! ;)

All in all, I am in LOVE with how this page turned out. I learned a lot not only about what art supplies I need but also about myself. I absolutely love the Bloom Collection by Jamie Dougherty and it makes me happy that I can create beautiful pages in my art journal like this since I can't draw to save my life.   haha How blessed are we to have gorgeous stamps available like this to create with?! I hope you enjoyed my post today and are inspired to pull out your Bloom Collection stamps and let go of any fear that might be holding you back from making something beautiful! You never know, that mistake (like mine) just might be the start of something amazing.

New Bloom Girls and Guy!!! Are coming!!

It's that time of year again. Winter CHA. That means new designs, new product, and new goodies to create with. This year I have new stamps and stencils coming your way with Prima Marketing! They are some of my favorite yet! Here are a few samples using the new designs. The Bloom Collection is so versatile and can be used in so many different applications.

Quentin is going to be our first ever guy! He's got that steampunk edge and is perfect for cards, tags, and as you can see even Mixed Media! <3 nbsp="" p="">
Home decor, and fiber art is a perfect place to use your Bloom girls stamps. Embroidery is becoming a popular pastime, why not create your own Bloom girl work of stitched art.

The Bloom Collection is perfect for those art journals and art pieces. You can't draw? Not a problem, use bits and pieces of the stamp to help you design a finished art piece.

Check out the word "CREATE" A new addition to the bloom collection... Thread letters! They are lightweight and three-dimensional, the perfect finishing touch to any DIY project. They come white so you can customize them to match any project!

This release is my most favorite yet!

I hope you enjoy and can't wait to see what you all create with the new collection.

A Mermaid Day with Janine Koczwara

Hi everyone it's Janine Koczwara here and to say I was a little excited to receive some new Prima Bloom Girl stamps is an understatement!  It is amazing what new product can do for a girls creativity!  I set about stamping and colouring a couple of these beauties straight away!  My default method of colouring is Alcohol Markers and coloured pencils.  I like the feel of it and I find it the easiest way for me to colour images and get deeper shading results that I am pleased with.

With such a gorgeous stamp I felt the call of the mermaid art journal page!  I went straight for Teals and Blues to create this background for my pretty little Mermaid.  I started with an acrylic paint base and layered in some masking with one of the New Bloom Stencils and then some subtle stamping for additional background texture.

I wanted her to be hiding behind a rock with a tail sweeping from behind, most of it not visible.  I am a novice to drawing, so I pulled up a reference image of a rock and sketched it onto Prima Bloom Watercolour Paper, adding deeper shadows with Caran deAche Neocolours II, before applying it with matte gel to the page.  I created the tail in exactly the same way, but added Glass Bead Gel to it for a rougher shimmery surface.

Finally, I really am trying to explore using my own hand writing on my journal pages.  Learning to draw and create my own lettering is one of my goals to stretch myself creatively.  I practiced a couple of different styles on copy paper to see what style I wanted before ruling lines on my art journal page and penciling in my letting.  Once satisfied, I went over it all with Pitt Artist Pen in Black and a final touch of glitter to give it something a bit extra.

I love using Jamie's new Bloom Stamps for my art journaling.  I can work on my shading skills while also challenging myself to try drawing other elements, and practice lettering to compliment the pages, knowing it is just in my journal, a place that is safe to practice and try.  If I like it I can photograph it and share.  I really do recommend starting an art journal and having a wonderful play in it's pages.

You are all going to LOVE the new release Bloom Girl products Jamie has designed!  There are so many awesome stencils and stamps for you that will totally inspire creativity!

Bloom Girl Guest Lisa Novogrodski... See The Beautiful Foolishness of Things

Hello everyone I would like to share this adorable post by one of the Bloom Girl Guest Design Team members. Lisa Novogrodski! Thank you for taking a look and i hope you enjoy.

Jamie

Hi Everyone! It’s Lisa Novogrodski here and I am thrilled to be guest designing this month for
Jamie Dougherty’s Bloom Girl Team!
I wanted to do something a little “out of the box” with the Bloom Girl stamps. If you are familiar with my work then you know I like to use products in a different way then they were intended. Nothing is safe. If I can cut it up, rearrange it and put it back together again that is what I’ll do! Soooo… today I want to show you that you are only limited by your imagination when it comes to these fabulous stamps. While you can stamp and color them and use them on your project you can also stamp and rearrange them into whatever path your imaginations takes you down.
“See The Beautiful Foolishness of Things and Linger”
I’ve used the Bloom Art Book to create my project. I love that the pages already have some color and pattern to them. No “blank page fear” if you happen to suffer from that.

I stamped the Bloom Girl Joy on white cardstock and cut the flowers from her hair…and well… I cut off her hair!  The stamped flowers were colored with Caran d’ache water soluble crayons which I love. I also stamped with Clear Stamps and the flower stamp that came with the pack of Flair Buttons. I splattered the background with Bloom Mists and added some art doll parts to the girls!

On the opposing page I used Bloom Girl Paige. Again I cut her hair off and stamped her on white cardstock. I also stamped her again several times on pattern paper. I cut the flowers out and used a mix of those cut from pattern paper and those cut from white cardstock.  I mixed them into background scene as well as forming a crown of flowers for her head. I used Caran d’ache to color her face and the white stamped florals.
I set my Bloom Girls in a scene adding some more art doll parts and background interest to give my pages a fun quirky look! Give it a try!

When I think of February....

When I think of February I think of one thing...Valentine's Day. SO I had a few spare, precious moments of silence last night, I know how did that happen. I decided to work in my art journal a bit.

I love working on two pages when I Journal. Sometimes my pages run horizontal and sometime vertical. I like how you can change it up ;) This page was a V-Day inspired page. I use PanPastels to color the background, dress, and hearts. India Ink to paint in the words and splatter; and pen and pencil to sketch and outline.

The Art journal is by Dyan Reaveley, it's part of her Ranger Ink collection. The pages are nice and thick and work well with all art mediums.

Take your creativity and jot something down in a journal, you'll find that you stay more creative and inspired if you take just a few minutes a day to make something.

Have a great week and happy creating. Also The Bloom Girls Workshop 2 just started. There's still time to sign up. We have a great group of artists already signed up and started.

Hugs
Jamie D.

Prima Mini/Journal Goodness

So it's CHA time again which means new goodies by our favorite manufacturers. I love checking out all of the new papers, embellishments, and art mediums coming onto the market. Just looking at the sneaks online gets me in to the creative mood. I have a few Mixed Media Mini albums to share with you and I hope they get you creating as well.

Prima Marketing and Donna Downey have Mixed Media journals this release that are just waiting to be altered. They are prefect for any creative mind and any medium. Take a look and thank you for stopping by this sunny Monday!!!

This first mixed media album is one created with Donna Downey's new canvas coffee cup album. The front page has a fun circle cut out. You can place a photo behind the window or like I did, place a flower from the next page to peek through.

This is another of the new Mixed Media albums by Donna Downey. I used a mixture of sprays and paints to alter the canvas front, to add the polkadot pattern I used granular gel medium with Donna's new polkadot masks. I'm in love. Who doesn't love polkadots? I added some of Donna's new tissue poppy flowers and Prima wood buttons. This journal is filled with papers, tags, and tabs just waiting for your paints and inks...the possibilities are endless.

This is romance and love all covering a canvas cover. This new mini/art journal is a canvas covered wood with a leather like binding. Inside there are 50 pages of kraft paper waiting patiently for you to alter. I used Shimmerz Pearlz paints with Golden Fiber Paste to alter the front. I added some of my favorite Prima embellishments to give the cover a unique look.  I am truly loving the new wood embellishments.

This cover is a new version of Prima's Mixed Media journals. I love the two new designs they have coming out and I could collect these to the point of hoarding. They are so easy to paint and embellish.  On the resin cherub I used silver foil and adhesive to give it an antiqued look. I then used one of Prima chalk inks to add more definition.
To add depth I used a new Prima mask with colored fiber paste. It added a pop of color that helps carry the flowers colors across the cover.

Art journals are all the rave and this class will get you going on the right path. You will be creating a Mixed Media Album cover as well as learn different ways to use your art mediums and scrapbooking supplies to create colorful pages for your art journaling. You will work with Prima's new Mixed Media Journal, stamps, stencils, Golden Mediums, and Ranger inks to name just a few.

Please bring to class: scissors, liquid adhesive (Jamie used Helmar 450), heat gun.
