Hi Bloom Girl fans! Carisa here with you today and I'm sharing a simple one layer watercolor card using Paige from the Prima Bloom Girl collection! I have had this stamp in my stash for quite awhile and this my first time stamping and coloring her.
I am using the Zig Clean Color Real Brush pens to do all of my watercoloring and I have a video for you sharing my process and thoughts on these markers. I love creating simple cards using the stamps from the Bloom Girl collection, in fact, I stamped all my girls onto the same Strathemore watercolor cards to create a few different cards to have on hand. These stamps are so beautiful and you can add as much color or as little and they still look beautiful on your cards. A simple sentiment to let someone know you are thinking of them and you are good to go.
I hope you enjoy the video and I will see you next month with another Bloom Girl project!

Hi everyone! Carisa here with you today and I created a watercolor mixed media canvas using the stamp Summer from the Prima Bloom Collection. I was thinking about it and out of ALL the stamps released, I honestly think Summer is my favorite! I love her hair and how it cascades over part of her face like it's hiding part of her soul. Anyway, this canvas is really easy to make - seems clean and simple has made its way into my mixed media as well. Even though there are tons of layers here, it is all with different colors and paints. I would have loved to capture my process on video but I'm having technical difficulties with the tripod set up at the moment. So, I tried to capture in pictures for you as much as I could.
First, I grabbed some products that I wanted to use on my canvas. I am using a Master's Touch 8x10 Watercolor Canvas Panel. I pulled out some gel medium and a stencil but ended up not using them. I went simple with this canvas focusing more on the painting than adding extra layers.
I stamped my image using Archival Ink in Watering Can. I wanted to keep this canvas soft so I opted for this grey waterproof ink rather than black. I don't have a block large enough for this stamp so I just inked it up and pressed it evenly to the canvas with my hands. I got a few extra spots of ink but I think that just adds to the texture and the coloring will cover that up so I'm not worried about it.
I wanted to use my new gelatos on this canvas to watercolor with so I pulled out the Pastels and Metallics set to start with and mixing the peach and white directly to the canvas I started to paint in her skin. When I'm painting with Gelatos, I scribble the pigment directly to the canvas and then spritz with water. Using my fingers I spread the color around. I use this same technique to create the background with lots of water to create drips.
I wanted more depth and dimension to this image so I pulled out my Derwent Inktense pencils and used them to create more shading and depth on her skin. I also used them to color the foliage in her hair. At this point, I got into the zone and forgot to take more process photos! I colored her hair using two different colors of gelatos (iced coffee and caramel) I love how mixing the metallics with the pastels created such depth and dimension in her hair!
Here is a close up of the finished piece. I love all the texture on this piece yet I didn't add any papers or texture mediums. Rather, I pulled out an alphabet stencil to focus on adding texture to my canvas. To do this, I pulled some gelato color on to a baby wipe and wiped it through the stencil. I love the effect this technique has on a canvas and it's a great way to use Gelatos rather than a spray with your stencils.
I hope you enjoy my canvas and remember to share your Bloom Girl projects with us in our Facebook Group! We love seeing what you are creating with Jamie's awesome line with Prima.

Hi everyone! Carisa here with a fun way to use your stamped and colored image with your mixed media projects. I am using Jamie Dougherty's Prima Bloom Girl collection Instachick as well as two of her stencils, Sweet Pea and Lotus Flower. Along with lots of yummy paints, texture and embellishments!
Let's get started - join me as I share my process with you in this video:
Hi everyone! Carisa with you today and I am SO excited to be sharing my first ever post as part of Jamie's Bloom Girl Design Team. I used the Emily stamp and Sweet Pea stencil to create a page in my art journal. I also filmed a video for you to share my process and how it all comes together. I hope you will take a few moments out of your day to watch and be inspired to experiment and let go...because that's exactly what I had to do for this page to come together!
This page really started because of this quote. I picked up this book at a thrift store and I have been using it as my art journal. I love the quotes that are sprinkled throughout - some make me laugh (this book was published I believe in the early 1900's) and others really resonate with me like this one. I am so honored to be a part of Jamie's Bloom Girl DT but for some reason, I always freak out when I sit down to work on a project for a blog post - that's why this quote was PERFECT!! The biggest mistake I make in art is not even starting!
I really love the texture that the Sweet Pea stencil added along the bottom of my page. You can really see how pretty it looks here with some metallic texture medium.
Doesn't Emily look gorgeous on this page? It looks as though I planned this, right?! Nope! I actually had stamped right on my page but ended up stamping where there were a lot of ink splotches from me experimenting earlier. Oyi, I was like OH NO! So, I looked around and saw Emily half watercolored from an earlier attempt at a project that I had tossed in the trash because I wasn't happy. I took her out and thought, ok, I'll just fussy cut her out and adhere her over my earlier stamping. I finished coloring her and did just that…except now I know in order to attach something so thick and textured, I will definitely need some heavy gel medium in my art supplies! ;)
All in all, I am in LOVE with how this page turned out. I learned a lot not only about what art supplies I need but also about myself. I absolutely love the Bloom Collection by Jamie Dougherty and it makes me happy that I can create beautiful pages in my art journal like this since I can't draw to save my life. haha How blessed are we to have gorgeous stamps available like this to create with?! I hope you enjoyed my post today and are inspired to pull out your Bloom Collection stamps and let go of any fear that might be holding you back from making something beautiful! You never know, that mistake (like mine) just might be the start of something amazing.
