"Autumn" Mixed Media Painting

Hi everyone. I started a Mixed Media series and here is the first of four canvases I'm working on. Her name is Autumn, she represents one of the four seasons. Can you guess which one ;)

Here is a 12"x24" Mixed media canvas I worked on yesterday. I first started with the girl. I used Prismacolor Watercolor pencils on a rawCanvas Corp canvas, I then blocked her out with Golden Artist Colors black gesso. I traced out her hair and combined Golden's Molding paste and Fluid acrylic paint and used a palette knife to form out her hair. I went back through with a paint brush to add definition and smooth out the paste. I added Canvas Corp's red jute cord and burlap banner tags to her hair. I thn layered Prima Marketing Flowers and7gypsies wire swirls. I created the little bird out of polymer clay. I then used Ranger Ink / Tim Holtz Adirondack color wash in Red Pepper over the top of her hair piece, hair and highlighted her skin. To add a finishing glow to her I used PanPastel Colors to highlight the canvas and her face.

I love the weight of Canvas Corp.'s canvases. They are all raw and have a nice give to them. They take art mediums really well and can be used for anything from decoupage, scrapbooking, to fine arts.
I also used one of the new felt flowers I designed for Prima this CHA. It blends so well with the rest of the embellishments.

She took me quite a bit of time but she was worth every minute of it. I have her listed on Etsy currently.

I created this little bird out of Polymer Clay and painted him with Golden Fluid acrylics. When I do clay pieces I use the buff colored clay. I find that it paints easier than a white or colored clay.

Here is the brand that I use. I find that it holds its shape when it bakes and it is easy to mold but not too soft. You can find it at Dick Blick Art Materials or Michaels Crafts.

On the next canvas I will try and tape some of the techniques I use to create it. I hope you all have had a great February and have an even better March.

Hugs
Jamie D.
