Turning Stamps into Art !!!

Hi Bloom fans, Milagros here with you today!  Only a few more days until Sunday when we celebrate Mother's Day.  Today I am sharing a sweet project you can make in time for Mother's Day, believe me it takes barely a couple of hours with stunning results, thanks to Jamie's awesome stamps!
Inspired in my mom's garden which gets visited by hummingbirds on a daily basis here's my project

You will need
Catrina, Mother and Anneli Stamps
I am sharing the full images just so it's easier for you to picture where I got my images from

Start by priming your canvas, I always begin with a coat of gesso
Stamp and roughly cut your images
Adhere them to your place of choosing with gel medium

now you are ready for some paint!
I am using Liquitex acrylic paints in different shades of blue and white

For my hummingbirds I chose a mix of watercolor pencils, acrylic and mica powders

For my roses I chose a couple of different reds and white to create depth and richness in my flowers

here's a closer look at my canvas

the hummingbirds sparkle with the gold, green and blue mica powders, just as they do in nature.
I hope you have enjoyed my project, that it has brought some last minute inspiration for your Mother's Day gifts.

Enjoy this weekend with Mom!

Lacie Bloom Girl - Lisa Style

Hi Bloom friends! It's Lisa here with you today and I have a really neat way to use your beautiful Bloom Girls. I'm using Lacie today. She is from the newest CHA Winter 2015 release and she is GORGEOUS!!

Here's how I made her:

1. Cover the 5 x 7" sticky backed canvas with Prima Art Basics Clear Gesso (Item #961466). Allow to dry or heat set.
2. Gather acrylic paints.
3. Apply acrylic paints in desired colors and in varied patterns. Allow to dry/heat set.
4. Stamp background with patterned stamp with dark Archival Ink (my preference is Black.)

5. Remove backing from sticky back canvas and stick to canvas. (*Tip - if necessary for good adhesion, apply Gel Medium to edges and dry.)
6. Place Bloom Girl Lacie on piece of vellum cardstock. Measure width of stamp and cut to size.
7. Stamp Bloom Girl Lacie in black pigment ink on vellum cardstock and use clear embossing powder to heat set.
8. Use watercolor pencils, Stamper's Big Brush Pens, and acrylic paints to color the beautiful stamp.
9. Use Color Bloom Sprays to accent the colors in her hair and the tattoo on her arm. (I shook them up and then dipped my paintbrush in to the spray bottle directly.)
10. I used the same acrylic paints for the background for her hair to tie the background and the stamp together, creating a cohesive look.
11. Placing Jamie's Spark stencil (Item # 980399) over the image and using my finger and white acrylic paint I simply rubbed the paint through the areas I wanted the image (or stencil) to show through. Super easy!
Here are some close-ups:

And here's another!

The additional things that I did to finish the piece off were to add some distressing to the edges of the vellum cardstock prior to wrapping and adhering it to the back. I also added just a touch of Journey Glaze to her lips and to the heart on her face to make it "pop".

I had no idea that the orange of the background piece would look so amazing through the vellum and look almost like skin! When I chose the colors - I picked them because I like them. What a happy accident. :)

Here are the products I used from Prima:
Jamie Dougherty Bloom Girl Lacie #980320
Jamie Dougherty Spark Stencil #980399
Prima Art Basics Clear Gesso #961466
Prima Color Bloom Spray Storm Cloud #573768
Prima Color Bloom Spray Tangerine #573935
Prima Color Bloom Spray Soft Teal #573782

I hope that you enjoyed this little canvas today!

"Autumn" Mixed Media Painting

Hi everyone. I started a Mixed Media series and here is the first of four canvases I'm working on. Her name is Autumn, she represents one of the four seasons. Can you guess which one ;)

Here is a 12"x24" Mixed media canvas I worked on yesterday. I first started with the girl. I used Prismacolor Watercolor pencils on a rawCanvas Corp canvas, I then blocked her out with Golden Artist Colors black gesso. I traced out her hair and combined Golden's Molding paste and Fluid acrylic paint and used a palette knife to form out her hair. I went back through with a paint brush to add definition and smooth out the paste. I added Canvas Corp's red jute cord and burlap banner tags to her hair. I thn layered Prima Marketing Flowers and7gypsies wire swirls. I created the little bird out of polymer clay. I then used Ranger Ink / Tim Holtz Adirondack color wash in Red Pepper over the top of her hair piece, hair and highlighted her skin. To add a finishing glow to her I used PanPastel Colors to highlight the canvas and her face.

I love the weight of Canvas Corp.'s canvases. They are all raw and have a nice give to them. They take art mediums really well and can be used for anything from decoupage, scrapbooking, to fine arts.
I also used one of the new felt flowers I designed for Prima this CHA. It blends so well with the rest of the embellishments.

She took me quite a bit of time but she was worth every minute of it. I have her listed on Etsy currently.

I created this little bird out of Polymer Clay and painted him with Golden Fluid acrylics. When I do clay pieces I use the buff colored clay. I find that it paints easier than a white or colored clay.

Here is the brand that I use. I find that it holds its shape when it bakes and it is easy to mold but not too soft. You can find it at Dick Blick Art Materials or Michaels Crafts.

On the next canvas I will try and tape some of the techniques I use to create it. I hope you all have had a great February and have an even better March.

Hugs
Jamie D.

Here is what I created.
