Art Doll Addiction

I think I have one... An art doll addiction. These little girls have consumed me lately. I love the personalities they take on and how crazy you can get with them :) Thinking up my third one now.

Here is the newest doll I finished up over the weekend. She is made out of paper clay and polymer clay. I hand painted her features using Golden Artist acrylics, her hair is made our of wool yarn, her trims I received from The Piece by Piece, and the flowers are by Prima Marketing.

She measures approx. 18"

She has a ghostly haze to her eyes and a broken heart.

Now onto the next one.

Happy Creating

Handmade Catrina Dia De Los Muertos

My little Catrina doll is perfectly dressed for the Dia de Los Muertos celebrations. Nov 1-2 is when families of the lost loved ones come together to pray and remember those they've lost. The holiday is a predominately Mexican celebration but it is also done in other cultures around the world. It coincides with the Catholic holidays All Saint's Day and All Souls' Day.

Catrina is made from paper clay and a metal birdcage. She has been hand painted and her hair is done with wool yarn. Her eyes were also hand sculpted and painted. The trims that help make her dress were from the awesome store, The Piece by Piece. Her little skulls are my originals designs and were sculpted out of polymer clay :) Aren't they fun!!!

I hope to create a couple more to join Catrina...What do you think? Does she need new friends.

Until next time I hope you enjoy the rest of your October and don't let the ghosts and ghouls get you this Halloween!

Polymer Clay OOAK Doll

I have done pottery and sculpting but never attempted anything with Polymer Clay before, and nothing at this small of scale. It is far from expert but here is my first attempt at an OOAK doll. This takes a lot of finesse.
Supplies Used:
Clay- Super Sculpey
Clay tools
Flowers-Prima
Paint- Golden Liquid Acrylic, Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist
Hair- Generously donated from one of Karlie's Barbies ;)
Adhesives-Beacon Fabri-Tac
Wings-Check out this link to a woman who shows you how to create your own wings.

This is what my sculpture looked like right before I baked it.

And this is the finished result.

Her lashes came loose in the pic sorry. I hate when that happens lol.

Truth behind idea of the fusion between the fairy and tree came from me unable to get her hands and feet right soooo it merged into this.

The flowers were white Prima flowers that I altered with Glimmer Mist and paint. I first sprayed the flowers with Bronze then painted the centers with Rum Punch.

Her head of hair was created with Barbie hair, I know it's not all fancy but it's what I had and the pink stood out to me. Luckily Karlie had no qualms about giving me the barbie. Anything for art. I cut it from the barbie and adhered it by layers to the polymer clay.

I need to work more on my proportions and those damn eyes. Also those darn things called arms and legs. Practice makes near perfect lol. Not sure if this will become a regular thing but it was a fun detour to the usual :)

Thank You for stopping by. Happy Friday all!!!

Hugs
