The Color Room

I have been so consumed with deadlines and responsibilities I decided to do a scrapbook page just because I wanted to :) I love going to The Color Room for inspiration. Even if I don't have time to join in on their challenges I often use their color palettes for my other projects. Make sure to go and check out the group!!! Here is this week's challenge. I love the colors and I roughly based my layout off of the sketch as well!

Here is my layout...

I used Prima Marketing papers and flowers (of course) my colors were created with Shimmerz paints and Ranger Ink Distress Stains by Tim Holtz. The background feels a little rough to me but it's growing on me ;) (Never regret) I added some of Tim's metal embellishments as well.

I used a few of Karlie's photos to show how quickly time passes. She's growing up so quickly.  I used the distressing ink on the background in different layers. I cutout part of the background to create more dimension. I colored that piece of watercolor paper with Shimmerz sprays and paints. creating a nice contrast.

"Autumn" Mixed Media Painting

Hi everyone. I started a Mixed Media series and here is the first of four canvases I'm working on. Her name is Autumn, she represents one of the four seasons. Can you guess which one ;)

Here is a 12"x24" Mixed media canvas I worked on yesterday. I first started with the girl. I used Prismacolor Watercolor pencils on a rawCanvas Corp canvas, I then blocked her out with Golden Artist Colors black gesso. I traced out her hair and combined Golden's Molding paste and Fluid acrylic paint and used a palette knife to form out her hair. I went back through with a paint brush to add definition and smooth out the paste. I added Canvas Corp's red jute cord and burlap banner tags to her hair. I thn layered Prima Marketing Flowers and7gypsies wire swirls. I created the little bird out of polymer clay. I then used Ranger Ink / Tim Holtz Adirondack color wash in Red Pepper over the top of her hair piece, hair and highlighted her skin. To add a finishing glow to her I used PanPastel Colors to highlight the canvas and her face.

I love the weight of Canvas Corp.'s canvases. They are all raw and have a nice give to them. They take art mediums really well and can be used for anything from decoupage, scrapbooking, to fine arts.
I also used one of the new felt flowers I designed for Prima this CHA. It blends so well with the rest of the embellishments.

She took me quite a bit of time but she was worth every minute of it. I have her listed on Etsy currently.

I created this little bird out of Polymer Clay and painted him with Golden Fluid acrylics. When I do clay pieces I use the buff colored clay. I find that it paints easier than a white or colored clay.

Here is the brand that I use. I find that it holds its shape when it bakes and it is easy to mold but not too soft. You can find it at Dick Blick Art Materials or Michaels Crafts.

On the next canvas I will try and tape some of the techniques I use to create it. I hope you all have had a great February and have an even better March.

A Happy New Mini For The Upcoming Year

Hello everyone!! I wanted to share with you my Mini album i created on Live With Prima. A great way to use the acrylic you have or bring back those mini albums. With all the mediums that are popular right now. Acrylic is the perfect product to use those mediums on. Take a look and I hope you enjoy.

Here is what I created.

"US" Mini
In this class Jamie will show how you can alter acrylic using Staz-On inks, embossing powder and Sharpie markers, as well as using your heat gun to alter and manipulate the acrylic to add dimension. Create a beautiful Mini album for your New Year's celebrations or a memorable anniversary present.

CHA is Coming !!! :)

Anyone who is a scrapbooker and breathing knows that it's that coveted time of year again. CHA comes to town. And every manufacture, designer, and artist is gearing up for the show. I am sooo excited! This year I will be helping out 3L Adhesives (Scrapbook Adhesives). I will be doing Make and Takes Monday and Tues. So make sure you swing by to see me and to see what new goodies Scrapbook Adhesives has in store. You will not want to miss out.

I have been working for the past couple of weeks on Prima goodies for the show. I think I can honestly say that the releases this year are my favorite by far!! And I am not just saying that either ;) The goodies coming out have stirred major inspiration. There are some other booths I can NOT wait to see!! Webster's Pages, Ranger, Tim Holtz, Tattered Angels. I think those would be like my top four.

Here are a couple sneaks of Prima's releases. Make sure to check in to their blog the next few weeks for sneak peeks and give-a-ways!!

On this LO I used one of Prima's new masks as a dry embossing template. Once it was embossed, I sprayed the mask with Glimmer mist and pressed it into the impression. And ran a brayer over it. See masks and stencils are for more than just spraying ;)

My favorite flowers of the season are on this page. The two larger tan colored flowers with the stems in the middle. They remind me somewhat of Cherry blossoms. I LOVE <3 This paper line is the Botanical Collection. Very soft and floral. Beautiful.

If you are making the trip to L.A. here in a couple of weeks have a safe trip and I hope to see you there.

Hugs
