Exciting News!!

I am so excited to announce that I will be part of the 2012-2013 Prima Education Team!!! I love teaching and Prima is an amazing company to work with, also I am joining some talented ladies.

A little bit about my style of teaching; wether it's a scrapbook page or canvas I will usually teach in a mixed media style. I love combining my fine art skills into my classes. I love seeing how some look at the class with a little hesitancy but come out amazed at what they accomplished. That's part of art no matter what media, you should always strive to better your abilities. I enjoy sharing new and advanced techniques with beginners who thought were impossible. You can learn anything if it's explained the right way.

If you would like me to come and teach a class in your area please email me and I would love to set up a workshop.
jaylynnscraps@gmail.com

Also I wanted to share my latest canvas with some, in the process photos. Art isn't always pretty lol.

She starts as a sketch. Keep in mind this sketch will probably change before she's done.
(About ten thousand times lol)

After I have her where I want her on the canvas I start to add the background around her. With some of my mixed media pieces I prefer not having texture behind the girls. So I build around them. I am doing a transfer technique to create the background.

Next is to paint her. I use Golden Artist Acrylics and water color pencils to create her features.

Next is to add and build her details. Like her hair, her shading. Then once she is painted I go back in and fill in the rest of my background.

To finish the background I added PanPastels over the top of the background paper. This blends in the papers but still allows their patterns to show through. I add a shadow around her which created contrast and helps her pop of the canvas.

I add little dimensional accents to her like Prima Ruby Violet flowers and Prima Donna Downey Sculpted flowers, those are a slight obsession right now.

To finish her off I added Poppies around her with Faber-Castell Gelatos and PITT pens. I used a clear Prima stamp to add a grunge texture and Acrylic paints to add the dripped edges.

I have a few more projects up my sleeve this week that I can't wait to share. Also keep a look out for a couple canvas classes I have coming up in Poway,CA!! ;)

Art journals are all the rave and this class will get you going on the right path. Live With Prima Mini Album Class!!

Happy Friday everyone. It's a three day weekend and I'm hoping part of this weekend will consist of paint, canvas, and a glorious mess . Last night I had a Live With Prima class and I thought I'd share with ya. Help get those creative juices flowing. This is pretty structured for me and i apologize if the measurements are a little jumbled in the video. I hate measuring :P But here are the accurate measurements you will need if you would like to follow along with the video :D

Here are the measurements for last night's show:
2 pieces of white card stock, watercolor paper, or chipboard at 12"x6", 4 pieces of patterned paper at 12"x6"

Fold lines: On one piece of white crd stock fold at 1" in and again at 4" from the edge. That will give you 3" between the two score lines. On your other piece fold at 3" in and then at 4" in. this will give you a 1" between the two folds. Fold the pieces and then adhere the patterned paper on top of the crd stock.

On the binding of the inside. Accordion fold at a 1/2" you will want at least seven folds. You can add more if you like.

Hope you enjoy and have a artistic three day weekend.

Here is a LO I created using Prima and tattered Angels. I wanted to share a couple of techniques I used on this page :)

When I was making the background. I started with Plain Watercolor paper. I used Prima's Brick wall Mask/Stencil and used Candy Apple Red glimmer Mist to spray the design onto the page. It was a little hard looking so I used Iridescent Gold glimmer mist over the top to soften it and make look like watercolors. The blue on my background is Grand Tetons Glimmer Glam. I simply poured the glam onto the paper and heat set it. I love the grunge artistic look to it.

Now another fun project I did was I took plain canvas and altered it with a white Sharpie paint pen. Drawing on the dots and spraying over the top of it with Candy Apple Red glimmer Mist. The Sharpie pen works awesome as a resist. :)
