When I think of February....

When I think of February I think of one thing...Valentine's Day. SO I had a few spare, precious moments of silence last night, I know how did that happen. I decided to work in my art journal a bit.

I love working on two pages when I Journal. Sometimes my pages run horizontal and sometime vertical. I like how you can change it up ;) This page was a V-Day inspired page. I use PanPastels to color the background, dress, and hearts. India Ink to paint in the words and splatter; and pen and pencil to sketch and outline.

The Art journal is by Dyan Reaveley, it's part of her Ranger Ink collection. The pages are nice and thick and work well with all art mediums.

Take your creativity and jot something down in a journal, you'll find that you stay more creative and inspired if you take just a few minutes a day to make something.

Have a great week and happy creating. Also The Bloom Girls Workshop 2 just started. There's still time to sign up. We have a great group of artists already signed up and started.

Art Doll...Tis the Season

I've got another art doll done! She is one of my favorites :D THis little angel measures approx. 17" high and has been sculpted atop of a metal birdcage. She is sculpted out of La Doll stone clay and polymer clay.

Her coloring was done with PanPastels. I used gold leaf on her bodice and then gave it a patina'd finish. Her clothes were made from natural cotton and lace trims. I finished off her top with real pearls.

SHe can be found on my etsy shop ready to be taken home for the HOLIDAYS <3 nbsp="" p="">

I also do custom orders as well. Have your very own Bloom Girl Art Doll created just in time for Christmas.

Thank you for stopping by today and I hope you have a creative weekend.

PanPastel Metallics!!!!

The amazing people at PanPastel sent me a few or their new Metallic Pastels to try out!!! A huge thank you!!! I had the pleasure of trying the Pewter, Bronze, and Rich Gold. They have three other colors available as well... Silver, Light Gold, and Copper, and I can't wait to get them!!

I was so thrilled to try out these new colors. They are just as amazing as the original PanPastels but they have a stunning shimmer to them. They can be used on their own or blended with other pastels.

The brilliance in the colors can be used on light colored papers or darker colored papers. You can see that you can get a soft look or a bright and bold pop of color depending on your surface.

I created a mixed media piece using the PanPastels on top of Dylusions sprays.

Now before you use the pastels on top of the sprays I suggest using a workable fixative first. The fixative will protect your layers from blending together. Also the fixative with give tooth (grip) to the surface that will help the pastels move on the paper.

One of many reasons I love PanPastels is that they do work so easily with other art mediums. You can layer them on so many different surfaces.

I used the three metallics (Pewter,Rich Gold, and Bronze) with a few other PanPastel colors. (Burnt Sienna, black, Raw Umber Tint(white), and Burnt Sienna Extra Dark) The Rich Gold and Raw Umber Tint creates a beautiful highlight.

The stars were done with a Prima mask and the Pewter Metallic.

Now if you haven't worked with PanPastels I strongly suggest you do. They are made of amazing quality, last quite a long time, and are true to color. I also suggest that you use the Sofft applicators with your PanPastels to get the most from your art medium. I've used others tools besides the Sofft tools and you don't get the same effects and results that you would with the Sofft tool.

Now make sure to keep your eye out for the new metallics, you will definitely want to add them to your collection of art supplies.

So what do you think of the new metallics? Are they a new must have?

Happy Creating

Exciting News!!

I am so excited to announce that I will be part of the 2012-2013 Prima Education Team!!! I love teaching and Prima is an amazing company to work with, also I am joining some talented ladies.

A little bit about my style of teaching; wether it's a scrapbook page or canvas I will usually teach in a mixed media style. I love combining my fine art skills into my classes. I love seeing how some look at the class with a little hesitancy but come out amazed at what they accomplished. That's part of art no matter what media, you should always strive to better your abilities. I enjoy sharing new and advanced techniques with beginners who thought were impossible. You can learn anything if it's explained the right way.

If you would like me to come and teach a class in your area please email me and I would love to set up a workshop.
jaylynnscraps@gmail.com

Also I wanted to share my latest canvas with some, in the process photos. Art isn't always pretty lol.

She starts as a sketch. Keep in mind this sketch will probably change before she's done.
(About ten thousand times lol)

After I have her where I want her on the canvas I start to add the background around her. With some of my mixed media pieces I prefer not having texture behind the girls. So I build around them. I am doing a transfer technique to create the background.

Next is to paint her. I use Golden Artist Acrylics and water color pencils to create her features.

Next is to add and build her details. Like her hair, her shading. Then once she is painted I go back in and fill in the rest of my background.

To finish the background I added PanPastels over the top of the background paper. This blends in the papers but still allows their patterns to show through. I add a shadow around her which created contrast and helps her pop of the canvas.

I add little dimensional accents to her like Prima Ruby Violet flowers and Prima Donna Downey Sculpted flowers, those are a slight obsession right now.

To finish her off I added Poppies around her with Faber-Castell Gelatos and PITT pens. I used a clear Prima stamp to add a grunge texture and Acrylic paints to add the dripped edges.

I have a few more projects up my sleeve this week that I can't wait to share. Also keep a look out for a couple canvas classes I have coming up in Poway,CA!! ;)

Incase You Missed The Live With Prima Show...

Here is the video of last Thursday's Live With Prima show. I showed how you can alter the new Prima Mixed Media albums. I also shared how to use those mixed media skills on the inside of the album as well. I have been working on more interior pages tutorials to share with you, but computer glitches have pushed those back a tad :? I hope to have more videos on more art journal pages up very SOON!!! I apologize to the lovely ladies from my Stamping Details class for the delay!

Well here is the video :) Enjoy!!!

If you have any questions please fell free to ask. If you are just starting out in the Mixed Media style, don't be intimidated, you'll be surprised at how freeing it truly is :)
